Your maintenance records live on your device. Connected features use only the
services they need.

## Your everyday records.

Items, tasks, photos, mileage, and service history are stored in the Gear
app on your device and sync through Apple’s private iCloud database when
iCloud is available. You do not need a separate Gear account. Exported
backups include these records and photos; you choose where to save them.

## What leaves your device.

-
**iCloud:** items, tasks, photos, mileage, service history and
imported activity entries sync through your Apple iCloud account.
Strava connection tokens are not included in sync or exported backups.

-
**AI assistant:** relevant item and task details, notes, and
selected photos go through Gear’s server to Anthropic after you allow AI sharing.
With Pro and permission enabled, choosing a photo while creating an item
starts identification automatically. Turn sharing off in Settings → Permissions.

-
**Strava:** you choose whether to connect. Gear’s server
handles the authorisation-code and token exchange. Your device reads gear
mileage and selected activity information from Strava.

-
**Purchases:** Apple handles payment. Gear uses signed
transaction information to check Pro access and manage assistant usage
limits.

-
**Support:** we receive the email and any information you
choose to send.

## You choose what to use.

Skip photos to enter items manually. Leave Strava disconnected to enter
mileage yourself. Manage camera and notification permissions in the
Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. Use **Delete All Data** in Gear Settings to remove
all items and records and disconnect Strava. Deletions sync to other
devices through iCloud. Exported backup files remain until you delete them.

Disconnecting Strava clears the connection tokens and cached gear list.
Previously imported activity and mileage may remain in your items until you
delete those items. A calendar event you saved is separate and must be
removed in your calendar.
